LAHORE: In another distressing incident at the University of Lahore, a female student reportedly attempted suicide on Monday evening, according to initial reports.
The student, identified as Fatima, is an undergraduate enrolled in the Department of Pharmacy. Sources said the incident occurred on university premises at a time when no one was present to intervene.
Eyewitnesses stated that Fatima was found in critical condition, having sustained severe injuries. Hospital officials confirmed that she was initially shifted to the university’s teaching hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred to a private hospital on Defence Road due to the seriousness of her condition. She is currently on a ventilator.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be fully determined. University authorities have not issued an official statement so far.
This is not the first such incident at the said university. Earlier, last month, another student—a male named Mohammad Awais—also died by suicide.
Reports noted that he died under mysterious circumstances after falling from a building. The 22-year-old Awais fell from the fourth floor of the varsity building.
