US Ambassador sparks diplomatic storm with “Greater Israel” remarks

WEB DESK: The US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has ignited international controversy after suggesting it would be “fine” for Israel to expand its borders across the Middle East. In an interview with American commentator Tucker Carlson, uckabee asserted that Israel possesses a “Biblical right” to territory stretching from the Nile to the Euphrates, potentially encompassing parts of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.

According to Al Jazeera, the remarks come as President Donald Trump’s so-called “Board of Peace” convenes its inaugural meetings in Washington, an initiative aimed at resolving regional conflicts that has already met with deep scepticism from Palestinian leaders.

Diplomatic fallout and regional condemnation

Critics have warned that the ambassador’s comments risk undermining decades of US foreign policy and could further destabilise a region already reeling from the protracted war in Gaza. While the State Department has yet to clarify whether these statements reflect an official shift in administration policy, the “Greater Israel” rhetoric has drawn sharp condemnation from neighbouring states.

Jordan’s government described relations with Israel as being at their “worst” following the remarks, while analysts caution that such statements may jeopardise ongoing efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire and regional stability.
