WASHINGTON: US Congressman Jack Bergman has thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for what he described as their leadership in ongoing peace negotiations between the United States and Iran, according to a letter dated May 15.
In the letter, Bergman, who identified himself as co-chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, praised US President Donald Trump for confronting “Iran’s terror networks and nuclear ambitions head-on” and said Pakistan’s partnership had been “indispensable” to the effort.
“The United States’ relationship with Pakistan is of enduring strategic importance, and Pakistan’s willingness to leverage its unique position to bring these parties to the table is a demonstration of true statesmanship,” Bergman wrote.
