US consulate issues alert ahead of pro-Palestine rally

KARACHI: The US Consulate General in Karachi has issued an alert ahead of a pro-Palestine rally in Karachi.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the US Consulate General said that a planned demonstration near the US Consulate General in Karachi on Sunday, October 22 may cause traffic or other disruptions.

“The demonstration will start from Numaish Chowrangi near the mausoleum of the Quaid-i-Azam and end at the US Consulate General building.  Other demonstrations may materialise on short notice.  US government personnel movements will be restricted or altered. Do not travel to the US Consulate General in Karachi on Sunday, October 22.”

It further said to “avoid the areas of large public gatherings and demonstrations, exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of a large gathering and, or demonstration, review your personal security plans, monitor local media for updates, keep a low profile and carry identification and cooperate with police.”

Several political parties have announced to take out demonstration rallies across Pakistan including in Karachi to express solidarity with the people of Palestine, who have continuously been facing Israeli airstrikes in Gaza Strip and detentions and arrests in West Bank.
