WASHINGTON: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Wednesday rejected claims by Iran that it had shot down an American fighter jet, dismissing the assertion as false.
According to Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had targeted a US F/A-18 aircraft over the southeastern city of Chabahar using advanced air defence systems.
CENTCOM, however, firmly denied the allegation, stating that no US fighter aircraft had been downed. “No US fighter aircraft has been shot down by Iran,” the command reiterated, pushing back against what it described as inaccurate reports.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, said on Wednesday that the US proposal to end the war was being reviewed by top authorities in Tehran, but the exchange of messages through mediators “does not mean negotiations with the US.”
He told Iran’s state TV in an interview that Tehran has no intention to hold talks with the US.
