US denies visas to Pezeshkian’s media team ahead of his expected UN visit

The United States has denied visas to the media team accompanying Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as he is expected to travel to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly session, Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

An Iranian official said the US decision means Pezeshkian will have to travel to New York without his media team to attend the General Assembly session.

The visa denial could affect media coverage of the Iranian president’s activities and press arrangements during his visit.

Habibollah, director general of public relations at the Iranian president’s office, criticised the US decision, calling it a hostile act.

He said denying visas to the Iranian president’s media team would disrupt routine diplomatic and media arrangements.

According to Iranian media reports, Pezeshkian is expected to visit New York for the UN General Assembly, where he is also expected to address the session and meet with world leaders.

The Iranian criticism comes amid ongoing disagreements between Tehran and Washington over regional and nuclear issues.

US officials have not yet provided details on the reasons for denying visas to the Iranian president’s media team.
