US envoy Witkoff acknowledges Pakistan’s key mediation role in Iran talks

Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump's special Middle East envoy, lacks foreign policy experience but is a bold negotiator and already made his mark.

US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff has recognised Pakistan’s pivotal role as a mediator in ongoing efforts to ease tensions between United States and Iran.

According to Witkoff, a 15-point action framework aimed at advancing a potential peace agreement was conveyed to Tehran through Pakistan. He noted that Islamabad has been instrumental in facilitating communication, helping deliver constructive and positive messages between the two sides.

The envoy emphasised that Pakistan’s involvement has enabled meaningful diplomatic engagement at a critical time, positioning it as a key intermediary in efforts to de-escalate the situation. He added that the country’s role reflects growing trust in its ability to manage complex regional dynamics.

Analysts say Pakistan’s mediation underscores its strategic importance on the global stage, particularly amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran. They credit Islamabad’s balanced foreign policy and coordinated political and military diplomacy for enhancing its credibility as a reliable partner in conflict resolution.

Experts further noted that Pakistan’s efforts have contributed to preventing a wider conflict with potentially global repercussions, reinforcing its image as a stabilising force in an increasingly volatile region.
