WASHINGTON: American Airlines is set to resume flights between the United States and Venezuela later this month, restoring a direct air link between the two countries after more than six years.
The move comes following a key policy shift by Washington, which lifted a 2019 ban on US carriers operating flights to Venezuela.
The airline plans to operate daily flights between Miami and Caracas from April 30, becoming the first US carrier to reconnect the two countries since services were suspended in 2019.
The resumption of flights marks a significant step in easing travel restrictions, with authorities completing security assessments and regulatory approvals ahead of the restart.
American Airlines says the route will facilitate business, leisure and humanitarian travel, reviving a key air corridor that had remained closed amid years of political tensions.
