The United States and Iran have agreed on a 60-day memorandum of understanding aimed at extending the current ceasefire and opening negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear programme, Axios reported on Thursday, citing two US officials.

According to the report, the understanding has been reached between the two sides, but it still requires final approval from US President Donald Trump before it can move forward.

The proposed arrangement would extend the ceasefire for two months and create space for talks on Iran’s nuclear programme, a long-running source of tension between Washington and Tehran.

The development comes amid continued diplomatic efforts to prevent a renewed escalation and bring both sides back to the negotiating table. However, the agreement is not yet final, with Trump’s approval remaining the key step before any formal announcement or implementation.

Axios said the information was provided by two US officials, however, there was no immediate confirmation from either Washington or Tehran.
