The US State Department has stepped up efforts to build a new global coalition aimed at ensuring maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
According to US media reports, American embassies worldwide have been instructed to engage with allied and partner nations to join a proposed agreement called the “Maritime Freedom Construct.” The initiative is intended to secure safe passage for commercial shipping amid ongoing regional tensions.
Weeks earlier, US President Donald Trump asserted that the Strait was “open and ready for business,” despite heightened concerns over security in the region. Meanwhile, reports from The Washington Post indicate that the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford is expected to depart the Middle East for maintenance, signaling a potential shift in US naval deployment.
The developments come as Washington maintains pressure on Iran, with President Trump reaffirming the continuation of a naval blockade until Tehran agrees to terms on its nuclear program. He noted that Iran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances, describing the blockade as more effective than military strikes.
