WEB DESK: An American magazine has reported that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij, is carrying out terrorist attacks inside Pakistan using American weapons left behind in Afghanistan, lending weight to Pakistan’s long-standing claims on the issue.
According to a report published by The Geopolitics, TTP militants are continuing violent operations against Pakistani security forces and civilians, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The magazine notes that sophisticated US-made weapons are now in the hands of terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory.
The report states that American military equipment worth more than $7 billion remains in Afghanistan following the US withdrawal, a significant portion of which has found its way into militant networks. These weapons reportedly include M4 and M16 assault rifles, as well as advanced night-vision devices, giving terrorists enhanced operational capability.
The Geopolitics further highlights that US weapons are being sold openly on the Afghan black market, from where they are acquired by extremist organizations such as the TTP. This unchecked proliferation has, according to the magazine, directly contributed to the surge in cross-border terrorism affecting Pakistan.
Pakistani authorities have consistently maintained that militant groups are using abandoned American arms from Afghanistan to fuel attacks inside the country. The American magazine’s findings are being seen in Islamabad as a clear vindication of Pakistan’s position, which it has repeatedly raised at international forums.
Security analysts say the report underscores the regional security risks posed by the unregulated spread of advanced weaponry and reinforces Pakistan’s demand for urgent international action to prevent terrorist groups from exploiting these arms to destabilise the region.
