US News & World Report has released its list of the 50 most powerful countries in the world for 2025, with the United States retaining its top position.

According to the report, the US is considered the world’s most powerful country due to its political influence, strong economy, advanced military capabilities, and leadership role in global alliances.

China ranks second, followed by Russia in third place. The United Kingdom is fourth, while Germany holds the fifth spot. Among notable Asian countries, South Korea is sixth, Japan eighth, Saudi Arabia ninth, India twelfth, and Turkey seventeenth.

Australia is ranked 18th, Qatar 19th, and the United Arab Emirates 11th, reflecting their growing economic and defence influence in the Middle East.

Interestingly, Bangladesh has made its debut on the list, appearing at 47th, while Jordan occupies the 50th position.

The report defines powerful nations as those that influence global politics, economics, and security, maintain strong military forces, and assert their presence internationally. It notes that a truly powerful country leads on the world stage, impacts the global economy, exercises political influence, maintains strong alliances, and possesses robust defence capabilities.
