US State Dept: No support for regime change in Pakistan

WASHINGTON: Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the United States Department of State, reaffirmed the United States’ stance against supporting any regime change in Pakistan during a media briefing today.

Miller reiterated the US government’s position, emphasizing its commitment to promoting independent and fair elections in Pakistan. He categorically denied any allegations of supporting regime change, stating, “Except for fair elections, the US has no other position for Pakistan.”

Addressing questions about a protest rally outside the White House, Miller highlighted the importance of constitutional rights exercised by people living in the United States.

Miller underscored the strong partnership between Pakistan and the United States, emphasizing the significance of the relationship between the two nations’ governments and their people. He stated, “We see Pakistan as a valued partner of the United States with whom we work on a number of issues. That hasn’t changed, and it will not change.”

Responding to a question concerning the murder of a Sikh leader in Canada, the spokesperson disclosed that the US government has consistently engaged with the Indian Government on this matter. They have urged India to cooperate with the Canadian investigation.
