US understands Iran’s logic and principles, now it must earn Iran’s trust, says Qalibaf
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the latest round of negotiations between Tehran and Washington concluded without a breakthrough, despite what he described as constructive proposals from the Iranian side.
Speaking after the talks, Ghalibaf said Iran’s delegation had put forward “forward-looking initiatives” aimed at resolving key points of contention. However, he noted that the opposing side ultimately failed to build sufficient trust with Iranian negotiators, leading to a stalemate in the discussions.
He added that the United States now has a clearer understanding of Iran’s logic and guiding principles, particularly regarding its core demands. According to Ghalibaf, the responsibility now lies with Washington to decide whether it is willing and able to take the necessary steps to regain Tehran’s confidence and move the process forward.
The comments come amid heightened tensions following prolonged negotiations that have yet to yield a concrete agreement, with both sides signaling firm positions on critical issues, including security concerns and nuclear policy.
Ghalibaf also expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its role in facilitating the negotiations. He acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts in hosting and supporting the dialogue, describing its involvement as constructive during a sensitive phase of diplomatic engagement.
While no timeline has been announced for the next round of talks, the Iranian Foreign Office Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said earlier that diplomatic efforts would continue.
