LAHORE: All government and private schools across Punjab will reopen from January 19 (Monday), as the provincial government has decided not to extend winter vacations any further, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed on Thursday.

The minister clarified that academic activities will resume as per schedule, putting an end to speculation about a possible extension in school holidays. He said the decision was taken to ensure continuity in the academic calendar and minimize learning losses among students.

Meanwhile, the School Education Department has announced a series of strict measures aimed at improving cleanliness and educational standards in government schools across the province. As part of these efforts, the Education Secretary is expected to conduct surprise inspections of schools to assess on-ground conditions.

Under the new directives, responsibility for any shortcomings will rest with the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and District Education Authorities (DEAs) concerned. Officials found negligent in maintaining cleanliness, discipline, or academic standards may face disciplinary action.

The Education Department has reiterated that no leniency will be shown in enforcing these instructions. All district education officers have been directed to implement the orders immediately and ensure that schools meet the required standards ahead of the reopening.
