Vegetables prices skyrocket straining households’ budgets

ISLAMABAD: Despite recent reductions in the prices of petroleum products, the grip of inflation remains relentless, causing prices of essential commodities to surge nationwide.

 The high cost of fruits and vegetables in Islamabad has significantly diminished the purchasing power of the less fortunate.

On a recent Sunday in the capital, the prices per kilogram for various vegetables were as follows: onions at 126 rupees, potatoes at 125 rupees, tomatoes at 207 rupees, Thai ginger at 478 rupees, garlic at 450 rupees, cucumbers at 88 rupees, okra at 70 rupees, eggplants at 77 rupees, cauliflower at 50 rupees, and turnips at 105 rupees.

According to official price listings, Shimla Chilli is priced at 165 rupees per kilogram, Desi lemons at 113 rupees, Tenda at 97 rupees, Ghia Kadu at 154 rupees, Pakistani carrots at 95 rupees, Karela at 132 rupees, and Spinach at 48 rupees per kilogram.

In addition to these increases, apple golden varieties are now at 189 rupees, sundarkhani grapes at 356 rupees, garma at 176 rupees, pomegranates at 272 rupees, Japanese fruit at 132 rupees, and guavas at 129 rupees per kilogram.

Bananas are being sold at 134 rupees, Metha at 118 rupees per dozen, Chicken at 335 rupees, and Eggs at 330 rupees per dozen.

The relentless inflationary pressures continue to impact the cost of living for the people of Islamabad.
