Faiz Hameed court martial 14 years

WEB DESK: Following the court martial of former DG ISI Faiz Hameed, the verdict has been announced stating that the military man would receive 14 years on four accounts of the charges against him. The charges surrounded his role in the politics of the country. This is the first time in the history of Pakistan that a Former Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence has been awarded a punishment.

As per the Inter-Services Public Relations, the Field General Court Martial against former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, initiated on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act, concluded after 15 months of proceedings.

  1. Involvement in Political Activities: He was accused of engaging in or being involved in political activities, which is prohibited for serving military officers.
  2. Violation of the Official Secrets Act: He was charged with breaching laws designed to protect state secrets and classified information.
  3. Misuse of Authority: He faced an accusation of improperly using his official power and position.
  4. Causing Harm to Civilians: He was charged with actions that resulted in damage or injury to civilian citizens.

Following extensive legal deliberations, he was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, a verdict announced on December 11, 2025.

The ISPR statement also said that the court ensured full compliance with legal provisions, granting Hameed all his legal rights, including the right to choose his defence team. He retains the right to appeal the sentence through the appropriate legal forum. Separate investigations are ongoing into his alleged role in instigating political unrest and collaborating with political elements, as well as involvement in other related matters, which are being addressed independently of the court-martial proceedings.

Almost a year ago, the former spy chief Lieutenant General (retired) Faiz Hameed was formally indicted on December 10 on charges of harming national security and misusing authority.

The Field General Court Martial against him began on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act. According to the ISPR, the charges include involvement in political activities, violations of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of official resources, and causing undue harm to individuals.

A separate investigation is ongoing into his alleged role in violent incidents linked to national unrest, including the May 9 events. Authorities are also probing the involvement of political elements allegedly colluding to incite violence during these incidents. The ISPR had emphasised that Lt Gen (Retd) Hameed is being afforded all legal rights under the law during the court martial proceedings, ensuring due process while the investigations continue into his actions and alleged collusion affecting Pakistan’s security and public order.

In February 2025, Senator Faisal Vawda had also stated that former DG ISI General (retd) Faiz Hameed could face either the death penalty or life imprisonment, asserting he will not become a state witness and that his court-martial will continue. Vawda said the Army Chief has initiated accountability measures, leaving no relief for Hameed.
