WEB DESK: A routine hospital visit turned chaotic on Tuesday when, an e-rickshaw driver Deepak Rajput from the Mathura bypass area in UP, arrived at the district hospital with a live cobra snake hidden in his jacket pocket. He rushed straight to the emergency ward, holding the snake in his hand, and pleaded with doctors, saying, “Doctor, please treat me; this one has bitten me.”
The presence of the venomous snake left doctors, patients, and hospital staff fearful, creating a scene of panic. As per Bhaska English, emergency staff immediately alerted the police, who quickly arrived, calmed Deepak, and secured the snake in a safe container, restoring order.
Snake bite occurs during journey
According to police, Deepak was traveling to Vrindavan to collect a battery for his e-rickshaw when a cobra suddenly climbed onto his vehicle and bit his finger. He caught the snake immediately and carried it with him to the hospital, insisting that the doctors needed to see the exact snake to determine appropriate treatment.
Driver explains his actions
Deepak explained that he has survived several snake and scorpion bites in his childhood and does not typically experience severe reactions to venom. “How else would they know if it was a water snake or a jungle snake?” he said, when questioned about why he brought the snake along. He admitted feeling terrified and left his e-rickshaw behind to reach the hospital quickly, fearing delays or traffic jams could worsen the situation.
Condition stable, treatment ongoing
Dr Sushil Kumar, on duty at the emergency ward, confirmed that once the snake was safely secured, Deepak’s treatment began. The e-rickshaw driver is reported to be in stable condition, and his recovery is ongoing under medical supervision.
