WEB DESK: Indian star batter Virat Kohli added another milestone to his illustrious career on Wednesday by surpassing a world record previously held by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli, who already holds the record for the most centuries in One-Day Internationals, became the fastest player to score 16,000 runs in List A cricket, which includes domestic and international one-day matches. He achieved the feat in his 330th List A innings.
The landmark came during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match, where Kohli represented Delhi against Andhra Pradesh and scored a brilliant 131 runs. His knock not only powered his team’s performance but also etched his name further into cricketing history.
Kohli’s latest achievement reinforces his status as one of the greatest batters of the modern era, as he continues to rewrite long-standing records set by past greats.
Kohli’s career is defined by consistency, dominance and an extraordinary collection of honours that underline his status as one of cricket’s modern greats. In 2018, he received India’s highest sporting honour, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, for his outstanding performances in 2017, when he scored 2,818 international runs across formats.
Kohli has also won the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy multiple times, including back-to-back ICC Cricketer of the Year awards in 2017 and 2018, and the Cricketer of the Decade award for 2011–2020. His contributions earned him the Padma Shri in 2017 after a prolific 2016 season and India’s rise to the top of the Test rankings.
A dominant force in ODIs, Kohli has repeatedly been named ICC ODI Player of the Year. His achievements are complemented by major ICC titles, including World Cups, Champions Trophies and multiple individual decade awards.
