Weather alert: Thunderstorms, lightning haunt Islamabad and Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning battered the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi early on Saturday.

Sectors I-8, G-6, F-10 and G-5 in particular experienced intense showers as part of the ongoing monsoon season.

Early morning conditions showed rain commencing imminently, with a temperature hovering around 25 degrees Celsius.

A light wind blew at around 8 km/r, helping sustain a high humidity level of roughly 87 per cent.

Visibility decreased to about 2.9 kilometers due to dense cloud cover. Atmospheric pressure reading stood at 1000 millibars, and slowly declining, often a sign of continuing unstable weather.

The ‘dew point’ – an indicator of moisture in the air – is near 22 degrees Celsius.

Throughout August, the capital will experience regular monsoon rains, with over 20 days of rain predicted! Daily high temperatures will range to 30 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius.

The city’s monsoon pattern often includes sudden heavy showers, intense rains and frequent lightning.

Authorities did not issue any severe weather warnings beyond statements to caution to motorists and pedestrians about the rain and lessened.
