Netflix’s new crime thriller Nemesis is quickly generating buzz thanks to its high-stakes robberies, tense cat-and-mouse rivalry and a cast packed with familiar faces from hit shows including Insecure, Abbott Elementary, The Wire and Ahsoka.

Created by Power mastermind Courtney A. Kemp, the eight-episode drama follows a relentless LAPD detective obsessed with taking down an elusive master thief, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle between two men whose lives appear more connected than they first realise. Early reactions have praised the show’s twists, fast-moving storytelling and entertaining mix of police drama and heist thriller. 

What is it about?

At the centre of Nemesis are Detective Isaiah Stiles and businessman-turned-criminal Coltrane Wilder, played by Matthew Law and Y’lan Noel.

Isaiah is an LAPD robbery-homicide lieutenant haunted by past trauma and consumed by his mission to stop Wilder, a seemingly respectable businessman secretly leading an elite criminal crew behind daring heists across Los Angeles.

Netflix frames the central rivalry as one between two men who mirror each other in unexpected ways, with both driven by loyalty, obsession and family pressures.Critics have also drawn comparisons to Michael Mann’s Heat, thanks to the show’s central rivalry between lawman and criminal.

Matthew Law as Isaiah Stiles
Law leads the series as the emotionally intense detective trying to bring Wilder down. Viewers may recognise him from Abbott Elementary, Ahsoka, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Oval. 

Y’lan Noel as Coltrane Wilder
Noel stars opposite Law as Wilder, a polished businessman hiding a dangerous second life. The actor is best known for Insecure, The First Purge, The Photograph and The Weekend. 

Gabrielle Dennis as Dr Candace Stiles
Dennis plays Isaiah’s wife, a therapist struggling with the strain of her husband’s all-consuming career. Fans may know her from A Black Lady Sketch Show, Luke Cage and Insecure. 

Cleopatra Coleman as Ebony Wilder
Coleman portrays Wilder’s wife and occasional accomplice, balancing luxury real estate with criminal secrets. She has previously appeared in The Last Man on Earth, Infinity Pool and Dopesick. 

Familiar faces from ‘The Wire’ and beyond

The show also features several recognisable faces, particularly for fans of HBO’s The Wire.

Domenick Lombardozzi, Michael Potts and Moe Irvin all appear in major roles, while Ariana Guerra, Mike O’Malley, Jeff Pierre and Quincy Isaiah round out the ensemble cast.
