Spice Girls fans hoping for a major comeback this year may need to reset expectations, after Melanie C addressed growing reunion rumours and revealed what is actually happening behind the scenes.

Speaking during a recent radio interview, the singer shut down speculation that a 30th anniversary reunion had been planned and then scrapped.

Melanie C confirms where reunion plans stand

“July will be the 30th anniversary of ‘Wannabe’ being released,” Melanie C said. “And then later in the year, Spice, the first album turns 30 too. So, yeah, it’s a big one. And no, there is no reunion.”

Her comments come after reports suggested the group had failed to agree on plans to mark the milestone, with talk of live shows and a possible documentary circulating in recent months.

What’s going on behind the scenes

Rumours of a reunion have been building ever since the group last toured in 2019 as a four-piece, without Victoria Beckham.

More recently, reports claimed internal tensions, including a rumoured fallout between Mel B and Geri Horner, may have stalled discussions around anniversary plans.

Despite this, Melanie C suggested the door is not fully closed.

“We are communicating all the time, we want to do something,” she said. “Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic… that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point.”

Will the Spice Girls reunite at all?

While a 30th anniversary comeback now appears unlikely, the possibility of a future reunion remains open.

Victoria Beckham, who last performed with the group at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony, has previously indicated she would consider returning if her schedule allowed.

For now, however, fans marking the milestone year will have to do so without a full-scale Spice Girls reunion.
