ISLAMABAD: WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to reshare status updates from their contacts, as revealed in the latest Android beta version 2.25.16.19 released through the Google Play Beta Programme.
The feature, still in development, is designed with privacy at its core. Users will be able to enable or disable the option for others to reshare their statuses via a toggle, ensuring full control over their content.
When resharing is permitted, a dedicated button will appear in the WhatsApp status viewer, making it easier for users to forward a contact’s status to their own audience without taking screenshots or copying content.
Importantly, the original poster’s phone number will remain hidden, preserving privacy.
WhatsApp will also notify users when their status has been reshared, adding a layer of transparency.
While the resharing option is not yet available to all users, WhatsApp is refining the feature ahead of a wider rollout, aiming to streamline content sharing while maintaining strong privacy protections.
Share long video on WhatsApp status
Earlier, tech monitoring sites reported that WhatsApp is testing a new feature that would allow users to share longer videos — up to 90 seconds — in their status updates.
Currently, the popular messaging app allows videos of up to one minute to be shared on WhatsApp Status.
Initially, users could only post 30-second videos, but the limit was later extended to 60 seconds.
Now, the platform is said to be experimenting with increasing the duration to 90 seconds (one and a half minutes).

The feature is being rolled out in phases. A limited number of users have already received access to test the longer video uploads in their status. In the second phase, the feature will gradually be extended to more users.
If testing proves successful, WhatsApp is expected to launch the update globally within the next few months, allowing users to share more content in a single video on their status.
