Who are 41 PTI members asked by SC to confirm party affiliation?

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has released a brief judgment in the the reserved seats case, declaring 39 MPs as members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while directing 41 MPs to confirm their party affiliation within 15 working days.

The short majority decision acknowledged PTI as a political party that won seats in the national and provincial assemblies in the 2024 general election.

On June 27, the Election Commission of Pakistan presented a list of 80 members of the National Assembly to the Supreme Court, which is also part of the brief verdict.

According to the ECP list, the verdict said, Amjad Ali Khan, Saleem Rehman, Sohail Sultan, Bashir Khan, Junaid Akbar, Asad Qaiser, Shahram Tarkai, Anwar Taj, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Arbab Amir Ayub, and Shandana Gulzar have been declared as PTI members. Osama Melha, Shafqat Awan, Ali Afzal Sahi, Khurram Shehzad Wark, Latif Khosa, Rai Hasan Nawaz, Aamir Dogar, Zain Qureshi, Rana Faraz Noon, Sabir Qureshi, Owais Haider Jukkar, and Zartaj Gul are also recognised as members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf by the ECP, the verdict said.

According to the verdict, members declared as independents by the ECP include Ali Muhammad Khan, Shehryar Afridi, Aniqa Mehdi, Ehsanullah Wark, Bilal Ejaz, Umair Khan Niazi, and Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel.

The decision stated that of the 80 candidates listed by the ECP, 39 were declared as PTI candidates. The remaining 41 MPs have been instructed to show their party affiliation.

Upon confirmation, the ECP should issue a notice to the political party within 7seven days, and the political party must confirm the candidates’ affiliation within 15 working days, the verdict said.
