Who will be the next KP CM?

Peshawar: With PTI-backed candidates securing the required majority in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly to form the government in the province, speculation is rife regarding potential candidates for the chief minister (CM) position.

Three names of potential candidates have emerged for the CM position in the province’s next term.

According to reports, the names of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Ali Amin Gandapur, Mushtaq Ghani and Taj Mohammad Tarand have come forward for the post of KP Chief Minister.

According to PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur is likely to be named the next CM, as he stood by the party in difficult times  and led from the front.

He is an experienced politician and a strong candidate to be sworn in as the new KP CM, he said.

Ali Amin Gandapur can run the province in a better way, Ali Muhammad Khan said. 

Gandapur was the provincial revenue minister in the first Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and served as the minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan in former prime minister Imran Khan’s cabinet.

However, it is reported that the founder PTI Imran Khan will give the final approval of the candidates for the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the announcement will be made by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the results of 112 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly polls, while one has been prevented and two have been postponed.

According to the ongoing results, 90 independent candidates were successful for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats, in which 83 were PTI supported, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan seven, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) five and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) four seats.

The PTI backed candidates swept elections for national and provincial assembly seats in several districts, especially Chitral, Abbottabad, Swat, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Mardan, and Bannu.
