Denmark’s dream of a third consecutive World Cup appearance comes down to one big game: a high-stakes playoff final against the Czech Republic in Prague on Tuesday.
Coach Brian Riemer called it the most important match of his managerial career. A win secures Denmark a ticket to the World Cup, while a slip could end their run before it even begins.
“Reaching a World Cup finals is something special and unique. It’s an extraordinary experience that a manager might only encounter once in a career,” Riemer said ahead of the showdown.
The Danes enter the clash brimming with confidence after a commanding 4-0 victory over North Macedonia in Thursday’s semi-final. But Riemer is fully aware of the challenge ahead. The Czech Republic are a dangerous side, particularly from set-pieces, with striker Patrik Schick leading the charge.
“We’ve analysed their strengths and prepared accordingly. Set-pieces are a major weapon for them, and we must be ready,” Riemer said, stressing the importance of discipline and focus.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund echoed his coach’s caution, while also showing belief in the team. “This is probably one of the biggest games I’ve played in my career so far. There are nerves, but it’s about turning them into something positive,” he said.
With a World Cup spot hanging in the balance, Denmark now face a tricky Czech test, a single game that could define the nation’s footballing year.
