ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani in his message on the World Earth Day has said that we are compelled to reflect on the pressing environmental challenges facing our planet, particularly the detrimental impact of single-use plastic on our ecosystem.
He said that this year “Planet vs Plastic” resonates deeply with our commitment. The menace of plastic pollution was a pressing issue that demands immediate attention and action, he added.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani said that we were facing an unprecedented crisis due to the proliferation of single-use plastics, which were devastating ecosystems, harming wildlife, and endangering human health. It was imperative that we take decisive steps to combat this crisis, he added.
He said that without active citizenship, the government cannot implement its policies and regulations as no policy was successful without community engagement.
The Chairman Senate said “On this Earth Day, I urge, to champion legislation and policies aimed at reducing plastic consumption, promoting recycling, and supporting innovative alternatives to single-use plastics. By mobilizing our collective efforts, we can make significant strides towards a cleaner, healthier planet for current and future generations.”
