WEB DESK: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday stressed the central role of education in shaping Pakistan’s future, saying the country’s progress is directly linked to the empowerment of its youth.

In a message to the nation on World Education Day today, the president said education should go beyond rote learning and serve as a means to nurture curiosity, capability and strong character among students. He noted that Article 25-A of the Constitution reflects the state’s commitment to providing free and compulsory education to all children.

Highlighting the demands of the modern world, President Zardari said digital literacy and practical skills had become indispensable, calling for greater emphasis on research, innovation and digital education. He stressed that technical and vocational education was playing a vital role in equipping young people with skills that lead to dignified employment.

The president also emphasised the need to ensure equal educational opportunities for women and youth from underdeveloped and marginalised regions, terming inclusivity a prerequisite for national development.

Describing education as a national priority, he urged that young people be treated as key stakeholders in the country’s development journey. Education, he said, was the foundation of peace, progress and prosperity, and sustained investment in learning would help Pakistan meet future challenges.

President Zardari reaffirmed the state’s resolve to strengthen the education system to prepare the youth for a rapidly evolving global landscape.
