ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the Ministry of Information and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the shutdown of social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, in Pakistan.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC presided over the petition against the closure of X, which has been largely inaccessible in Pakistan since February 17, with users resorting to VPNs to access the platform.
During today’s hearing on the plea, Chief Justice Farooq inquired, “Is X closed?”

Chief Justice Farooq further inquired about the status of the matter in the Sindh High Court (SHC), asking, “What happened to it?”
The lawyer informed the court that the SHC would hear a petition related to contempt of court today.
In light of the information provided, Chief Justice Farooq announced that notices would be issued for the next week.
