Zaka Ashraf reacts to Inzamam’s ‘unilateral’ resignation

ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee Zaka Ashraf has responded to Inzamam ul Haq’s resignation as chief selector, expressing that Inzamam made this decision unilaterally without prior discussion.

In a statement, Ashraf revealed that he had not met with Inzamam before his resignation, and he had planned a meeting to seek clarification regarding the ongoing controversy.

However, instead of meeting and providing his clarification, Inzamam chose to resign, according to Ashraf.

According to media reports, the controversy surrounding Inzamam revolves around allegations of his holding shares in a company owned by players’ agent Talha Rehmani.

However, the revelation has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, as Rehmani represents several of Pakistan’s top cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

There are further questions regarding whether Inzamam’s dual role as chief selector and a shareholder in a company that represents leading cricketers might influence player selection decisions.

Inzamam was appointed as the chairman of the national men’s committee on August 7, and he also took up the role of chairman of the junior men’s selection committee earlier this month.

Inzamam expressed, “I am stepping down from the post to offer the PCB the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict of interest allegations raised in the media. If the committee finds me not guilty, I will resume my role as the chief selector.”

The PCB, in an official statement, acknowledged Inzamam’s decision to voluntarily step down during the course of the investigation.
