ZIM VS PAK: Zimbabwe post 148-run target in T20 Tri Series, Brian Bennett scores 49

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan edged past Zimbabwe in a nail-biting finish, clinching victory with five runs needed off the final over.

Chasing the target, Pakistan held their nerve and sealed the match by five wickets, despite tight bowling from Zimbabwe in the closing overs.

The thrilling finish kept the Rawalpindi crowd on its feet as Pakistan’s lower-order batters calmly steered the team home.

With this win, Pakistan wrapped up the match and continued their strong run in the series.

The ZIM VS PAK T20 match took place as opening clash of the Zimbabwe-Sri Lanka-Pakistan Tri Series. During their innings, Zimbabwe posted a competitive 148-run target against Pakistan as the touring team’s top-order Brian Bennett added 49 off 36 balls in the Tri Series.

The touring team were able to build a commanding innings against Pakistan as their top order went amazing in the beginning, with Brian Bennet and Tadiwanashe Marumani 79 off 58 balls before being downed. However, the middle order couldn’t manage the same flow to add better increase into their total as the Pakistan’s Shaheens restricted their opponents later.

Mohammad Nawaz picked up 2 (Marumani and Ryan Burl) and Saim Ayub, Abrar Ahmed each picked up 1 (Brian Bennett and Tashinga Musekiwa respectively), fast bowler Shaheen Afridi downed Brad Evans (2 off 5) while Salman Mirza claimed Tinotenda Maposa (1 off 3).

But the team’s skipper Sikandar Raza remained the only middle order batter who scored unbeaten 34 off 24 to increase his side’s total up to 139 while the rest were exactly the same as early batters.

With 8 runs conceded by the Greens bowlers in extras, the Zimbabwe were luckily able to push for 148-run target.

Earlier, Pakistan chose to field first after winning the toss, aimed at containing the series opener.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board has confirmed that captain Charith Asalanka and Fernando will miss the upcoming Tri-Nation Series due to health issues.

Asalanka and Fernando have returned home, the board announced, leaving the team without two of its key players.

In their absence, senior player Dasun Shanaka will lead the Sri Lankan side for the series, the board added.

The team will now continue the Tri-Nation Series under Shanaka’s captaincy, as officials closely monitor the situation involving Asalanka and Fernando.
