Zindagi to remove Barzakh from YT Pakistan amid queer content controversy

WEB DESK: Zindagi and the team behind Barzakh have decided to withdraw the Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed-starring series Barzakh from YouTube “in light of the current public sentiment in Pakistan” over the show’s portrayal of queer themes.

Zee Zindagi, in an Instagram post, shared the development, adding that the show will be removed from Pakistani YouTube after August 9.

” We, at Zindagi and Team Barzakh, extend our heartfelt gratitude to our global audience for their unwavering support for Barzakh — a show that was created to bring people together everywhere. But in light of the current public sentiment in Pakistan, we have decided to voluntarily withdraw Barzakh from YouTube Pakistan, effective August 9, 2024. This decision underscores our dedication to honouring our audiences without causing alienation. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support. Thank You.” the Instagram post by Zindagi read.

What is the Barzakh Drama controversy?

The series was produced by Waqas Hassan and Shailja Kejriwal, and directed by Pakistani director Asim Abbasi. It became surrounded by controversy after the show portrayed LGBTQ themes, which generated a debate on social media.

The last episode of the series will be aired tonight at 8pm.
