Aaliyah Kashyap slams Ambani wedding as ‘circus’, declines invitation

WEB DESK: In India, the grand wedding of billionaire heir Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant has become the talk of the town, with celebrities vying for an invite.

However, one notable personality, Aaliyah Kashyap, daughter of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, has opted out despite receiving an invitation. Kashyap has publicly criticised the event, calling it a “circus.”

Kashyap took to her Instagram broadcast channel to share her thoughts, stating, “The Ambani wedding is not a wedding at this point, it’s become a circus.”

She revealed that she was invited as part of a public relations effort, adding, “I was invited to some events because apparently they’re doing PR???? (Don’t ask me why) but I said no because I would like to believe I have a little more self-respect than to sell myself out for someone’s WEDDING.”

Kashyap also expressed her views on Justin Bieber’s performance at the sangeet ceremony held last Friday. She commented, “It’s like oh we have this extra money what should we do with it? Oh let’s call JUSTIN BIEBER, (sic).” Bieber reportedly charged ₹84 crore for his performance, during which he sang hits such as “Baby,” “Sorry,” and “What Do You Mean.”

Kashyap’s statements have sparked a variety of reactions online. One user questioned the need for the Ambanis’ public relations efforts, writing, “It’s obvious they have PR…but my question is why!? They don’t need image cleansing.

They have nothing to gain financially from curating an image like this. Why spend this kind of money and energy on making it a public event when it could be invested in more profitable ventures?”

Conversely, some users criticised Kashyap, with one remarking, “She’s talking as if she’s not rich, she’s also super duper rich.”

Despite Kashyap’s absence, the sangeet ceremony was a glamorous affair, attended by numerous Bollywood celebrities.

Notable attendees included Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Ananya Panday, Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Badshah, Karan Aujla, Veer Pahariya, and Manushi Chhillar. The traditional wedding ceremony for Anant and Radhika is scheduled for Friday in Mumbai.
