AR Rahman’s daughter shares message of patience amid parents’ separation

Daughter of AR Rahman and Saira Banu, Raheema Rahman’s latest Instagram post shows she’s trying to be patient through parents’ separation.

In an Instagram story, she posted a video of snowfall and captioned it with the caption of translation of Quranic verses. It said “Through every hardship, there is ease. Your Lord is going to give you and you will be satisfied”, under which she wrote “Verses to live by”.

Although she did not allude to her parents’ separation explicitly, the post comes after her previous post in which she had requested that people respect the family’s privacy. She had said, “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter could be treated with the utmost privacy & respect. Thank you for your consideration”.

On Tuesday, the legendary music artist AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced separation after 29 years of marriage on Tuesday. The couple, through their lawyer, Vandana Shah, confirmed the separation in a joint statement.

Indian media reported Saira’s lawyer saying that “significant emotional strain and insurmountable differences” became the reasons for the separation.

The statement also said, “Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time.”

AR Rahman also wrote about the separation in a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
