Bahawalpur zoo mourns the loss of beloved lioness ‘Buddy’

BAHAWALPUR: The Bahawalpur Zoo is grieving the passing of Buddy, a lioness who succumbed to illness after a prolonged battle with health complications.

Despite her extended period of illness, the zoo is still awaiting a detailed report to shed light on the circumstances leading to Buddy’s demise. The lioness had been grappling with diabetes and had been unwell for an extended period. Sources within the zoo revealed that Buddy had given birth to three cubs.

Usman Bukhari, the curator of the lion enclosure, expressed that Buddy had reached the end of her expected lifespan. He added that a post-mortem examination would be conducted to better understand the nature of her illness, and the subsequent report is expected to provide more insights into her condition.

The situation is reminiscent of a somber incident in 2011 when a 27-year-old lioness faced a similar fate in the same zoo. The loss of Buddy has left the zoo staff and visitors in mourning.
