KARACHI: A 23-year-old graffiti artist from Karachi, Affan Tariq, has turned heads with a massive artwork painted across a 2,400-square-foot wall in the Zainab Market area of Saddar, reportedly making it one of the largest graffiti pieces in Pakistan.
The large-scale mural, completed in just seven days, has gained widespread attention after Affan shared a video of his work on Instagram. The clip has gone viral, drawing praise from viewers for the vibrant transformation of what was once a dull and neglected wall.
Many commenters applauded Affan’s dedication and skill, especially considering that several bystanders in the video had initially expressed doubt that the project could be completed in such a short time.
“This used to be such a boring wall, but now it’s a stunning piece of art,” one user commented. Others joked about keeping the wall safe from “Bengali baba” marketing posters and “paan ki peek”, which are often seen defacing public spaces in the city.
While graffiti remains relatively uncommon in Pakistan, initiatives like Affan’s are helping bring the street art culture to life. Supporters on social media are calling for more public spaces to be beautified with such creative expressions, saying it not only adds colour to the city but also showcases the talent of local artists.
