Blackpink’s Jennie returns to the small screen with variety show announcement

WEB DESK: K-pop star and member of girl-group Blackpink Jennie made a return to television by collaborating with Kim Tae-ho on his latest variety show, “My Name is Gabriel”. The announcement came on Monday with Jennie confirming her participation in the upcoming program.

“My Name is Gabriel” introduced a unique concept, featuring cast members traveling abroad to experience the unexpected. Directed by Kim Tae-ho, the variety show shows viewers a glimpse into the lives of its cast members as they explore diverse corners of the globe.

Reports first surfaced about Jennie’s potential involvement in a new variety show. Jennie’s spokesperson acknowledged discussions about her participation in the show, slated to debut in June.

Jennie celebrated a triumphant return to variety shows after six years with her role in tvN’s “Apartment 404”. With her appearance on “My Name is Gabriel”, fans anticipate witnessing her dynamic chemistry with Kim Tae-ho.

In other news, Jennie’s solo single “One of the Girls” continued to make waves in the industry. The track steadily climbed the Billboard charts, reaching a peak position of number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Jennie Kim, professionally known as Jennie, made her debut in 2016 as a member of the popular K-pop group Blackpink. The group is managed by YG Entertainment.

Their early hits such as “Whistle” and “Boombayah” enjoyed significant success, with “Whistle” receiving over two million downloads in South Korea alone, and “Boombayah” accumulating more than 1.6 billion views on YouTube.

In November 2023, Jennie launched her own company called Odd Atelier, while still being contracted to YG Entertainment for group activities alongside fellow Blackpink members Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose. However, all four members of Blackpink are currently pursuing individual projects apart from their collaborative work with their management company.
