David Attenborough, David Beckham enjoy tennis at Wimbledon 2024

LONDON: Famous British broadcaster David Attenborough was spotted attending the opening day of Wimbledon 2024 in the royal box with his daughter.

The crowd gave the almost-centenarian a standing ovation as the famous broadcaster made his way to his seat. Footballer David Beckham was also present, accompanied by his mother.

Beckham got up to welcome the famous broadcaster as well, later the two British celebrities exchanging few words.

Meanwhile, the Royal Society of London unveiled a portrait of David Attenborough by artist Jonathan Yeo, known for the controversial King Charles portrait that faced extremely negative backlash.

A fellow of the Royal Society, David Attenborough’s portrait depict him seated against a green background. Yeo painted the famous broadcaster in recognition of his contributions to science.

The Royal Society will publicly display the portrait at its summer science exhibition starting Tuesday.

Johnathan Yeo has drawn some of most famous figures in modern world, from King Charles to his spouse Camila and even ex-prime minister of UK Tony Blair.

David Attenborough is widely respected as a biologist, natural historian, and is known for his conservation efforts. He worked with the national state channel BBC for decades, serving as controller of BBC Two and later as “director of programming” for BBC Television.

Attenborough first gained fame hosting “Zoo Quest” in 1954. He is well-known for his many nature documentaries, including the “Natural World,” “Wildlife on One,” and “Planet Earth” among other.

Throughout his career, Attenborough won numerous awards, including BAFTA Awards and three Emmy Awards.

The nonagenarian is a passionate advocate for environmental causes. He has called for action on biodiversity, renewable energy, climate change, reduced meat consumption, and conservation efforts.
