KARACHI: Despite that the second half of Ramazan has started, Eid shopping has hit a snag this year as soaring prices deter shoppers across the country.
The anticipation for Eid-ul-Fitr, one of Muslims’ most celebrated festivals, usually sparks a flurry of shopping activities. However, this year, markets are witnessing a lukewarm response from consumers due to inflation.
Traditionally, as Eid approaches, bustling bazaars and shopping centers are filled with eager shoppers looking to purchase new clothes, accessories, and gifts for loved ones. But this year around inflated prices are putting a damper on their festivities.
“It’s disheartening to see such high prices for basic necessities,” remarked a shopper in Lahore’s Liberty Market. “I used to look forward to Eid shopping, but now it’s becoming increasingly difficult to afford even the essentials.”
The impact of inflation and economic challenges is palpable, leading to a noticeable decline in consumer spending. From traditional garments to household items and groceries, prices have seen a significant uptick, putting strain on the budgets of many families.

“I had planned to buy new clothes for my children and gifts for relatives, but the prices have left me reconsidering my budget,” lamented a shopper in Karachi’s Tariq Road area. “It’s disappointing that the joy of Eid is overshadowed by financial worries.”
The situation is echoed in various cities across Pakistan, where shoppers are grappling with the dilemma of balancing festive celebrations with budget constraints.
As a result, retailers and vendors are facing less sales
According to shopkeepers, there is a rush of shoppers in the market but not buyers. Most people are window shopping in an attempt to find something economical or promotional discounts.
Despite the challenges, some shoppers remain hopeful for a turnaround, expressing optimism that markets may witness a surge in activity closer to Eid.
However, for many, the struggle against high prices serves as a stark reminder of the economic hardships facing the nation.
