lawyer seeks early release of Erik Menendez

WEB PAGE: Erik Menendez’s attorney has urged authorities to release his client early due to a serious medical condition.

According to legal documents, Erik is suffering from severe kidney stones and has already undergone two surgeries. A third operation is expected due to complications involving both kidneys.

He is currently hospitalized just weeks before his scheduled parole hearing. His stepdaughter, Talia Menendez, confirmed his condition in an Instagram post, saying Erik had multiple large stones in both kidneys.

Erik and his brother Lyle were convicted for murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. The brothers were sentenced to life in prison.

However, under California’s youthful offender law, both became eligible for parole on May 13, 2025, as they committed the crime before turning 26. Their sentences were later changed to 50 years to life.

At the most recent hearing, Erik expressed deep remorse, calling his actions “criminal, selfish, cruel and cowardly.” Lyle also admitted guilt and said he was “deeply ashamed.”

Supporters of the Menendez brothers claim they acted in self-defence, citing long-term sexual abuse by their father.
