ISLAMABAD: Indian film superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have been booked in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur city for serving as brand ambassadors of a car model allegedly plagued with technical faults.
According to Indian media reports, six officials of carmaker Hyundai have also been booked over alleged technical faults in a vehicle.
The case was filed on the complaint of local lawyer Kirti Singh, who said he purchased a Hyundai Alcazar in 2022 for INR 2.397 million.
He argued in his application that he had decided to purchase the car after watching advertisements featuring Bollywood stars, Shah Rukh Khan, and Deepika Padukone.
Being brand ambassador of the car, both actors presented the model as “trouble-free” and reliable –claims the complainant said turned out to be misleading. Instead, the lawyer added, the SUV soon developed multiple faults that could cause road accidents.
He claimed the car failed to pick up speed while overtaking on highways and displayed odometer warnings.
Despite repeated complaints, the company and dealership reportedly told her the issue was a manufacturing defect that could not be fixed.

Following court directions, police registered an FIR naming Hyundai officials as well as Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, who were brand ambassadors of the vehicle.
ASI Radha Kishan of Mathura Gate Police Station confirmed that a case has been lodged under charges related to fraud and misleading consumers.
Bollywood stars have landed themselves in legal trouble many times by participating in misleading advertisements.
For instance, this is the second FIR filed against Shah Rukh Khan within a year.
Earlier in March, a case was registered against him in Raipur for allegedly “cheating and misleading” people through a series of ads.
The lawyer who lodged the case was later arrested for “threatening” Shah Rukh Khan, after having served him several legal notices.
