Google currency converter glitches: £ down to Rs175, ¥ falls below Rs1

WEB DESK: Early Tuesday morning, HUM News English received reports of malfunction in Google’s currency converter, which was displaying inaccurate exchange rates.
The error sparked a brief wave of excitement amongst those hoping to convert their savings into foreign currency assets in the short run. However, the joy dampened quickly as the mistake was soon recognised.
As of February 3, 2025, the parity of Pound Sterling to Pakistani Rupee was nearly Rs 346, but Google showed this:
The Omani Riyal was also brought down to half of its value by the Google’s quick service. The OMR’s value was recorded over Rs700 yesterday, but on Tuesday, if you google Omani Riyal to PKR, the Google showed this:
Nearly, every currency was halved on Tuesday morning’s Google service. UAE Dirham to PKR rate was down from Rs75 to Rs38:
Perhaps an impossibility otherwise, but Japanese Yen cost less than a Rupee on Tuesday. From Rs1.79 the currency came down on Google convertor to Rs0.91:
However, the US Dollar was untouched – even on a glitch – with the dollar rate staying strong at Rs277:
With the overwhelming increase in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other forms of technology in daily lives, such seemingly harmless glitches are a wakeup call.
It raises concerns about humanity’s increasing reliance on these systems, which while appearing as mere technical hiccups could in fact be immensely detrimental.
