‘I’m Just Ken’ hits Billboard Hot 100

I'm Just Ken

LOS ANGELES: Ryan Gosling’s Barbie movie ballad ‘I’m Just Ken’ has officially hit the Billboard Hot 100, ranking at number 87. This marks the well-loved romcom actor’s first entry to the chart.

‘I’m Just Ken’ joins songs from artists like Dua Lipa, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish on the Barbie soundtrack, which debuted at number 2 this week on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Released on July 21, the song saw 5.2 million streams in the United States and 2,000 downloads in the first week. It also debuted at number 4 on Hot Rock Songs and number 5 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. It ranked number 39 on Digital Song Sales.

According to magazine Vanity Fair, the song’s music producer Mark Ronson immediately connected to Gosling’s version of Barbie’s right-hand man.

“You really fall in love with this hapless but immediately sympathetic figure.”

He said that the song’s iconic refrain “I’m just Ken / Anywhere else I’d be a 10” came to him “instantly.”

“It just seemed funny,” Ronson said. “This poor guy. He’s so hot, but can’t get the time of day.”

Ronson said the film’s director Greta Gerwig liked it so much that she rewrote the scene to allow Gosling to belt the ballad.

The song isn’t Gosling’s only tune for the film. He also recorded a cover of Matchbox Twenty’s 1997 song “Push,” which he plays on the guitar during a hilarious moment in the film alongside other Kens, like Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
