Jimmy Choo stepped in Pakistan and left us laced with questions

Jimmy Choo in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The globally renowned fashion icon Professor Jimmy Choo visited Pakistan last week, and then left as quietly as he had come, leaving Pakistani’s tapping their toes and scratching their heads.

The co-founder of high-fashion brand Jimmy Choo Ltd, Professor Choo is a legendary name synonymous with elegance, style and a high price tag. His visit to Pakistan came as a surprise for many, but even more surprising is the lack of hoopla that usually follows arrival of foreign media and fashion industry personalities in Pakistan.

Anyhow, now that Professor Choo is already back home, here is what we know of his low-profile visit. He visited Pakistan from February 19-22, and mostly stayed in Lahore. Entrepreneur and philanthropist Professor Sarwar Khawaja of SK Hub, and his wife, Faiza Khawaja hosted a grand evening in honor of the Malaysian fashion designer.

The evening featured attendance of artists, designers and entrepreneurs from fashion industry as well as related fields.

Another notable stop for the visiting legend was the residence of former caretaker Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz. After the event, the former minister took to social media and shared that he believes “a School of Fashion Design in Pakistan — built on international collaborations and guided by visionary mentors like Jimmy Choo — can be a transformative force for our industry.”

Ejaz said that by nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and adhering to global standards, Pakistan can elevate Pakistan-made fashion onto the world stage.

According to some reports, Professor Choo also visited historic landmarks and met with creative professionals, and diplomats.
