NEW DELHI: Kangana-Javed legal battle took a new turn as Bollywood veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has taken legal action against the summons issued to him by the Andheri court following a complaint filed by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.
According to the Indian media, the hearing on the matter is scheduled to take place in the sessions court on August 8.
The summons, issued by Metropolitan Magistrate R M Shaikh of Andheri court on July 24, directed Akhtar to appear before the court on August 5 in response to the complaint lodged by Ranaut. The complaint accused Akhtar of criminal intimidation and insulting the modesty of a woman under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as reported by the ANI.

According to the media reports, the court released detailed order on Wednesday. As per the order, the court found no evidence of extortion against the lyricist when issuing the summons.
The order further stated that there were sufficient grounds to proceed against Akhtar for offences under sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.
Kangana-Javed feud stems from a television interview in 2020 when Akhtar accused Ranaut of defaming him, leading to him filing a case against her in 2021. In response, Kangana alleged that Akhtar threatened her after inviting her to his house following her public dispute with Hrithik Roshan over their supposed affair. As a result, Kangana filed a counter-complaint against Javed Akhtar.
