Kangana-Javed feud: Kangana Ranaut seeks warrant against Javed Akhtar

MUMBAI: The Kangana-Javed feud takes a new turn as Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut filed an application in a Mumbai magistrate court to request a bailable warrant against lyricist Javed Akhtar.

According to the media reports, the application came in relation to an ongoing complaint lodged by Ranaut against Akhtar regarding a meeting held between the two back in 2016.

The reports said that the Andheri Magistrate court had summoned Akhtar to appear on August 5 in response to Ranaut’s complaint. However, Akhtar’s lawyer, Jay Bharadwaj, submitted an exemption application citing a medical emergency involving an extended family member, which necessitated Akhtar to leave Mumbai, making it impossible for him to attend the court on the scheduled date.

Meanwhile, Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, representing Ranaut, opposed the exemption and requested a bailable warrant against Javed Akhtar. He cited a similar situation during the hearing of Akhtar’s complaint against Ranaut as the basis for his application.

Advocate Bharadwaj, on the other hand, countered the submission and said that the circumstances and arguments were different during Akhtar’s complaint hearing.

After hearing both the parties, the court decided to keep Ranaut’s application on hold, allowing Akhtar an opportunity to comply with the bail procedure on the next date. Akhtar is therefore directed to follow the bail procedure accordingly.

Meanwhile, on August 8, the Mumbai Sessions court is scheduled to hear Akhtar’s revision plea against the issuance of process and summons by the Magistrate court. Akhtar seeks to quash the proceedings initiated by Ranaut.

Kangana-Javed feud stems from a television interview in 2020 when Akhtar accused Ranaut of defaming him, leading to him filing a case against her in 2021. In response, Kangana alleged that Akhtar threatened her after inviting her to his house following her public dispute with Hrithik Roshan over their supposed affair. As a result, Kangana filed a counter-complaint against Javed Akhtar.
