Kangana-Javed legal feud: Mumbai court summons Javed

Mumbai: The legal dispute between actress Kangana Ranaut and lyricist Javed Akhtar continues as the Magistrate court in Mumbai summoned Akhtar to appear before the Andheri court on August 5 based on Ranaut’s complaint citing Indian Penal Code sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insult to the modesty of a woman).

During the hearing Dr Ramesh Agarwal, Akhtar’s physician, was summoned as a witness. He testified about a meeting in 2016 involving Akhtar, Ranaut, and her sister Rangoli Chandel.

Dr Agarwal informed the court that during the meeting, Akhtar talked about the matter between Ranaut and Hrithik Roshan, emphasising the importance of the actors reaching an agreement.

The celebrated lyricist invited the Panga actress to his home in 2016 to offer advice on her public feud with Hrithik Roshan. Later in 2020, in a controversial interview with an, Ranaut alleged that Akhtar had intimidated her for speaking out on the issue and had then initiated a defamation suit against her. Meanwhile, he also filed a case against Ranaut in response.

During the court proceedings, Akhtar’s advocate asked Dr Agarwal about any defamatory words being spoken during the meeting, to which the doctor stated that he hadn’t heard any such words.

“The meeting lasted about 20-30 minutes, and before leaving, Akhtar had advised Ranaut to seek forgiveness,” the doctor added.

When questioned by Ranaut’s lawyer, Dr Agarwal denied that either Ranaut or Akhtar’s had asked him to mediate in the dispute between her and Roshan.

He said that he was part of the meeting at Akhtar’s request. He further explained that the agenda of the meeting was for both Ranuat and Roshan to apologize to each other, but he was unaware that only Ranaut would be asked to apologize.

Meanwhile the Dhaakad actress conveyed her displeasure to Dr Agarwal after leaving Javed’s house, claiming that she and Roshan were both supposed to apologize at first, but only she was later asked to do so.

As the legal proceedings continue, the court is closely examining the complexity of the situation and the dynamics between the parties involved.
