KP launches week-long polio vaccination drive in 33 districts

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will lead a seven-day polio vaccination campaign that will span 33 districts of the province.

The drive will commence from Friday till March 8. Health workers would administer polio drops to children under the age of five in targeted areas, aiming to immunize over seven million children against the disease.

The campaign will includes districts across the province, including Nowshera, Peshawar, Swat, Bajaur, Hangu, Charsadda, Kirk, Kohat, Mohmand, Buner, Lower Dir, Mansehra, and Malakand.

In a bid to reach every child, health teams were mobilised across urban and rural regions. ensuring no child is left unvaccinated.

The drive aims to protect children against the poliovirus, which has no cure and can disable the victim for life.

On February 25, the health ministry announced the second nationwide polio vaccination drive. More than 45.8 million children are targeted to be vaccinated.

The vaccination drive was scheduled to be held across Pakistan from February 26 till March 3.

The ministry also announced giving vitamin A supplements to the children in order to boost their immunity.
