Hair trend: Go short, be bold

ISLAMABAD: Summer is the right time to experiment with your hair. But before you consider a full chop, it’s worth considering which style will best suit your specific features.

Determine your face shape
Whether you choose to go shorter or longer, and the style of cut, all depend on identifying your face shape.

Stand in front of a mirror and draw four points on the furthest parts of your face. That is the distance between your forehead, chin, and both years. Then compare it to the chart below. Most people will roughly lean towards one shape.

HEART
If you’re heart shaped like Halle Berry, you’re in luck because you can go as short as you please. No face is better suited to a pixie cut.

Experiment with short layers, closely chopped from the sides. You can also rock an effortless tousled look on top that will balance out your overall features. If you prefer longer hair, opt for a long bob with a few layers throughout to give you volume.

OVAL
Oval-shaped faces like Rihanna’s can pull off almost anything, which is why you have free reign to go short or long.

A short bob that skims your chin can help you widen your face and bring out your jawline. A side-swept pixie will also suit your face.

If you want to go longer, play around with layers, especially if you have thinner hair.

ROUND
If your face is round like Selena, a longer bob will suit your face. This will lengthen your features and draw the eye down. Elongate your face with straight hair, voluminous waves, shaggy bobs, or swoopy bangs.

You can experiment with a whole host of long bob styles, or lobs, cut at different angles to add more sharpness to your face.

SQUARE
Finally, square-shaped faces like Angelia look stunning with wavy shags, wispy fringes, soft side-swept bangs, or long layers with a fringe.

These are also some of the few faces that can rock asymmetrical bangs to balance their angularity, and create a softer look.

Conversely, you could also go shorter to draw attention to those high cheekbones and strong jawline.
