Love in times of protests: wedding couple’s “container” photoshoot

WEB DESK: A newly married Islamabadi couple decided to make the best of an unpleasant situation, and turned the lockdown in the capital into an unusual venue for their wedding photoshoot.

An Instragram page by the name of The Talent Studios posted some pictures of Khola – the vibrant bride in a silver gray dress and Qasim – the dapper groom in a moon gray suit standing in front of the blue, red and orange containers, with ‘804’ spray painted on them.

With Junoon band’s “hai jazba junoon, tu himmat na haar” [translated as “You have passion, you should not lose courage”] playing in the background, the photos have truly captured the essence of resilience where people can find joy even in such times of turmoil.

A few shots of the bride standing right in the middle of ‘8’ and ‘4’ specially caught the attention of the netizens. The account also came up with quirky captions for the photos.

One of them said, “Pov: Its your Lifetime event & Lockdown said hi”. Another one read, “When you couldn’t find any other location on your big day. Since it was all locked up”.

Islamabad is heavily fortified with most major roads blocked with containers. The wedding halls, parks and other usual spots favoured by the newly weds for their pictures are either shut down or inaccessible.

Faced with such a situation, this couple refused to bow down or to delay their photo shoot. Instead, they made an aesthetic out of the ‘lockdown’ and immortalised the day in their wedding pictures – much to the surprise and delight of the general public.

Comments under these photos are praising the ingenuity of the photographer and the spirit of the couple, to have created joy out of a dampening moment. Someone called it “the best photoshoot of [their] life time”, while some called the couple “zinda dil”. Some even joked about the potential tear gas in the background, while some highlighted the political interpretation of the graffiti on the containers.

All in all, Khola and Qasim truly created lemonade out of lemons, and the nation is happy for them.

We wish the beautiful couple all the best!
